Overview:
‘Beyond Capricorn 1’, a Nordhavn 57, hull number #17, was built in 2001 to Australian Survey Standards for a knowledgeable Australian owner and delivered to Melbourne, Australia in 2002. If required, she could be returned to Australian Survey for charter work. She was completed with many custom features, and has two staterooms. Master with ensuite, and a guest cabin, which shares an ensuite with a two bunk cabin. Plus, there are crew quarters with two bunks and an ensuite. She is the WIDE BODY version and has expanded salon volume and flybridge entertaining area. She is one of 6 twin powered 57s built and has two Caterpillar 3126 TA. (mechanically injected) diesels of 420hp each. Twin 17.5kva Onan generators and a 24v 8” Bow Thruster (as opposed to 6” on most others). Excellent manoeuvrability is provided by the combination of the twin engines and bow thruster. She has an impressive cruising history, departing (on her own bottom) Australia in approximately 2003 for the Mediterranean, by way of Indonesia, Singapore, Goa, Oman, and the Suez Canal. The owner then took her into the Black Sea and entered the Danube at Constanta, Romania. The ship crossed central Europe, and exited the Danube at Antwerp. They then returned to the Mediterranean, via the UK and Gibraltar, where they spent several years cruising. The boat was subsequently sold to two (related) Turkish owners and was kept at Gocek, Southeastern Turkey. Up until we purchased her, the boat had a full-time Captain onboard continually for 16 years.
Since purchasing the boat in Turkey in November 2018, we have toured the Mediterranean extensively and crossed the Atlantic in December 2022. We hauled the boat in Chaguaramus, Trinidad for routine maintenance, before making our way up the island chain of the Caribbean, to the Bahamas and the East coast of the USA. During our ownership, we have clocked up more than 25000 nm’s. We are currently cruising in the Bahamas where the boat will be available for inspection at Marsh Harbour. Before this, we had the boat hauled at RAM marina in Rio Dulce, Guatemala, where she underwent cosmetic work to the superstructure and the bottom stripped back to the laminate prior to the application of new epoxy barrier coat and anti-fouling.
Disclaimer: US import duty of 1.5% has not been paid.
- WIDE BODY (no walkway down Portside) more interior space in Salon.
- Larger diameter (8”) Bow thruster.
- High volume 2” 240v fire and emergency bilge pump. (Australian Survey requirement). Connected to a manifold for pumping individual bilge compartments.
- 2 each 17.5 kva 240v 50hz Onan generators
- 24v x 4 MG Lithium battery 1200 amp hour installation. 28,800 watt hours total capacity. Coupled to an MG BMS controller.
- 2 each 5000w Victron Quattro Inverter/chargers.
- The Lithium house bank can be quickly charged from one or the other of the 17.5 kva generators via the Quattro inverter/chargers. In addition, the main engine alternators supply power during the main engine run time. If running the generator, additional charge can be directed to the batteries via the shore side Skylla 100 amp charger.
- Approx 2,25 kW Solbian solar panel installation. These panels are 2.5mm thick (less than 1/8”) glued to the rigid biminis and can be walked on 14 panels installed new October 2024.
- Custom built solid Bimini tops over Fly Bridge, upper deck aft and aft cockpit.
- Tender is stowed on an engineered aluminium structure over the aft deck. This clears the full fly-bridge area for entertaining and leisure.
- For multi-national shore power supply, a Victron Skylla battery charger will accept 220-240v, 50-60hz to maintain the Lithium house bank, which supplies all the house requirements. Another benefit of this system is that it electrically isolates the vessel from shore power, and prevents the threat of a ground fault onboard.
- Rocna 70kg anchor and Nordhavn 80kg as spare. 125 meters (approx. 400’) of 1/2” chain.
- The SS and teak Aft swim platform adds 2’ of work/docking area. Easy access to/from the water at the stern of the vessel is made by the fold down boarding ladder. The carbon fiber ‘passarelle’ has three separate
anchor sockets for accessing various height docks. - Both stacks are removable, with flanges installed so the boat can do ‘The Loop’. Already completed by a sister-ship.
- All lighting has been replaced with LED lamps. Turkey 2019.

charge the system whether in the USA or Europe, and is a proven, simple
system to overcome the issue of international charging. This system also
has the added advantage of ‘isolating’ the vessel from the shore power.
• Each main engine is fitted with a Prestolite 140 amp alternator (New
2024) charge alternator. These are independently controlled by dedicated
‘Wakespeed’ alternator controllers, and charge the Lithium House Bank,
while underway. Typical output at cruise speed is more than 6000w
